Some of the topics addressed in this keynote are:
- Which diversity matters most in the workplace?
- The barriers to diversity; and
- What does a strategic approach to diversity look like?
This engaging and practical keynote is based on research from over 72 countries and was developed in partnership with The Cultural Intelligence Center.
Leading organisations across the world such as Coca-Cola, Google, PWC, Harvard Business School, and Unilever leverage diversity to get the most out of their employees and customers. Why not you?
Managing Unconscious Bias
Unconscious biases are social stereotypes about certain groups of people that are formed by individuals outside of their own conscious awareness. Left unattended these biases hamper individuals’ and organisations’ capability to build inclusive environments where diversity and inclusion can thrive. Drawing on the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) framework, CQ Africa’s Unconscious Bias training utilises research-based findings to facilitate the development and implementation of strategies that will disrupt bias in individual lives and organisations.
Culture Matters
Cultural value profiling to make better decisions
“The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of its people.” – Unknown
Yes, we are all different… We have different cultures, beliefs, and values and it’s supposed to be a beautiful thing. But, more often than not, it causes strife and confusion in our organisations. If your organisation is struggling with cultural diversity or looks anything like the picture below, cultural value profiling might be the answer you’ve been looking for.
-
Leadership
-
High Power Distance
-
Emphasis on differences in status; superiors make decisions
-
Low Power Distance
-
Emphasis on equality; shared decision-making
The Cultural Values Profile will help you understand different cultures, behaviours, values, and beliefs and how they shape your interactions. It will also help you recognise and learn how to manage unconscious bias and make better decisions in the long run.
This research-based inventory will allow you to compare your value orientations with the orientations of others on your team as well as people from the 10 largest cultural clusters in the world! Book today and see how you measure up culturally!
Cultural Intelligence (CQ)
CQ is a misunderstood, unexplored, and perhaps unappreciated topic in South Africa. It is a globally recognised way of assessing and improving the effectiveness of culturally diverse situations. It is rooted in rigorous, academic research done by scholars from all over the world and is a key component of personnel development for leading organisations in business, educations, government, and healthcare.
The assessment is composed of four measurables:
- CQ Drive – Your interest, drive, and confidence to adapt to multicultural situations.
-
CQ Knowledge – Your understanding of the similarities or differences in cultures.
-
CQ Strategy – Your awareness and ability to plan for multicultural interactions.
-
CQ Action – Your ability to adapt when relating and working interculturally.
The outcome? CQ will give your company a competitive advantage and equip your staff to apply and improve CQ to any intercultural relationship or situation. The session also includes the development of a personal action plan for CQ.
Creating a climate for diversity, equity and inclusion to thrive.
The Creating a Climate for Diversity & Inclusion to Thrive module is suited for people who want to move beyond Cultural Awareness, Unconscious Bias, and Diversity & Inclusion 101 training. This program will help anyone who works with different cultures whether multi-national, multi-generational, ethnic, or even different organisational cultures within a workplace. Utilising peer-reviewed research to offer recognised methods, participants will be given strategies that will help them foster a climate for driving an inclusive culture where diversity & inclusion can thrive.
Allyship
This masterclass will equip participants with proven strategies for applying CQ as an Ally, Unlocking The Power of Allyship. “Allyship” is defined as “using one’s power or position to support or advocate for coworkers with less power or status”
- Drive: Is the motivation needed to be an effective Ally:
- Knowledge: Understanding ones Social Identity and context and how to use it to be an effective Ally.
- Strategy: The application of strategies to be an effective Ally.
- Action: Is the ability to adapt behaviour when the situation requires it (Ask, Listen Advocate).
Can you imagine the value of such a culture in your life or organisation? Now, you can experience that value
Unlocking the power of Diversity through Psychological Safety:
Many studies have shown that diverse teams perform better, are more innovative, and experience better general health and happiness than non-diverse teams, but it is not as simple as assembling a group of diverse people. There are many ways to unlock the potential of diverse teams; one of which is through creating Psychological Safety.
Check Your Privilege
The Check Your Privilege workshop will provide historical context about the politics of identity and the dynamics of power and privilege and help build greater self-awareness at both a micro (individual) and macro (communal) level. The activities are intended for groups of 10 to 60 people. For larger groups, we can break into multiple sessions with additional facilitators to ensure the conversations and activities remain focused.
The Check Your Privilege workshop:
- Is not a lecture and participants will not be told what to believe.
- Is not an indoctrination.
- Is a participatory workshop that is intended to help guide all participants to better understand themselves and to address difficult issues around privilege.
- There will not be personal judgment of anyone’s feelings about a particular issue.
